An unpretentious city factory with the printing press running in open halls on 2 lower floors, along with back end offices on the upper floor. The client was open to simple ideas of sustainability, local sourcing and local employment, along with being a staunch believer of the dictum of Vaastu.
To be able to incorporate the massive press machines, it was important to maximise floor plate sizes and not cut them for the sake of design. The resultant Cuboid is decorated in an eccentric repetition of inset shaded windows allowing ample natural light from the front north façade, yet not directly placed in the Delhi summer sun. Double glazed UPVC windows add to passive cooling strategies. The façade is carefully skilled and clad in stone chip Grit finished by local kaarigars, matching that yellow with local emerald coloured marble outlines, highlighting windows and projections. The site is equipped with Rainwater harvesting, efficient LED light fixtures, efficient exhausting of press areas and is future enabled for Solar electrical incorporation. The interiors are tastefully finished in the robust conventional Kota stone to be able to withstand high loads and movements within the factory. Intense study of steel quantities was carried out to result in not only an efficient structure but also lead to sustainable consumption of a material with high carbon footprint of production.
