The Glass-house

 REQUIREMENT BRIEF

A Japanese machine manufacturing dealership head office was required to be developed keeping in mind comfort, transparency, maintenance ease and flexibility.

 OUTCOME

The two floors are based around an open plan in the centre, with the dead walls on one side utilized for functions like the pantry and dining. The North facing allotment enjoys an open shaded balcony spruced with greens and views to a common garden deck below. Their conference halls and private cubicles are lined with glass, so as to maintain privacy of conversation, yet the clear glass allows for psychological transparency among all hierarchies of workers. With Japanese expats stationed at this office, the idea was to have visual comfort via allowing some greens to flow into the office interiors. The flooring, in contrary to the conventional tiles, is laid in terrazzo instead allowing the owners to renew it every now and then with simple buffing for maintenance. Besides this, emphasis on lighting design allows for efficiency in operational costs. The Glasshouse amplifies simplicity and facilitates a constructive, interactive and efficient work environment.
